Ricoh GR II

about

The Ricoh GR II

This is a digital point-and-shoot camera. It has a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a focal length of 28mm.

As I mostly use film cameras with normal lenses, the Ricoh GR II is quite different from what I am used to. It is a digital camera with a wide-angle lens, so I am still getting used to thinking about situations in which it excels. In fact, I modified a few of these first photos (though not all of them) by cropping them to appear as though they were taken with a normal lens.

What drew me to this camera was both its lens quality and small size. I wanted a camera I could fit into my pocket and pull out whenever something caught my eye. The other cameras I use, while not gigantic by any means, are still too big to fit into a pocket, so I either have to take the time to pull one out of my backpack when I want to take a photo or I have to be in constant "photo mode" while I carry it around.

Being digital, it also has a few on-board color effects. The two I used in these photos are high-contrast black and white, and positive film.

So far I do like this camera, but I am still getting used to it.
